We’re heading into the final week of October and that means one thing for cash flow: it’s time to tighten up receivables and make sure your customers pay before month-end. Too many businesses let the last few days of the month slip by and then spend the first half of the next one playing catch-up. A little extra effort right now can make a huge difference in your cash position heading into November. Cash is King.

Here’s how to make the next week count for you, your team, and business…

  • 1. Review Your Aging Report Today
    Identify which invoices are due or overdue before October 31. Prioritize accounts that typically pay late and reach out now.. not on the 30th when they’ve already checked out for the weekend.

  • 2. Send Reminders with Purpose
    Instead of generic statements, send polite but firm reminders that emphasize timing. Try something like: “We’re closing out our October books next week…can we count on your payment by the 31st?” It’s professional, direct, and effective.

    Make it as frictionless as possible for customers to pay. Send links, include QR codes, or highlight ACH and card options. The fewer steps it takes, the faster payments come in. Avoid checks.

  • 4. Communicate Internally
    Loop in your sales and account teams so they know which customers need follow-up. Collections works best when everyone’s aligned and proactive. Your sales team should be helping you here and not be a barrier…we’ve all been there and seen this, right? 🙂 

  • 5. Track Daily Progress
    Every payment you post between now and the 31st matters. Keep your AR dashboard updated daily to stay focused on hitting your target. This is a game of being proactive, so stop pushing this off all the time.

A strong month-end finish means better liquidity, cleaner books, and less stress rolling into November. Push hard this week, follow up with purpose, and close out October on top of your cash flow.
